Our Environment

Conservation and sustainability are embedded in the rich culture and heritage of Sealaska’s tribal member shareholders. Guided by these principals, Sealaska Natural Living seeks to provide retailers and contract customers with high-quality, environmentally and socially responsible outdoor furniture solutions.

As an Alaska Native owned corporation, Sealaska’s foundation is built on the philosophies of stewardship and sustainability. We have an obligation to uphold our culture and heritage, which entails holding our lands in perpetuity for our future generations. It is for these reasons Sealaska manages its lands with the highest standards of stewardship and seeks out partners who follow the same principles. For more information click here.

Additionally, all of SNL’s furniture products are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and to show our commitment to sustainable forestry practices among our company and partner companies, Sealaska Natural living has received its CoC certification from the FSC organization and requires that all of its partners are both certified and follow the astringent guidelines of the FSC organization.

Tramontina
Tramontina invests and believes in environmental preservation. Because of this, special care is taken with the control of raw materials. This begins prior to harvest through the initial CoC, until lumber is received at their manufacturing facilities for further and final processing. Documentation is always examined, verifying whether harvest management plans comply with the standards defined by governmental bodies, and suppliers are pre-inspected. The company is very proud of using only wood of a legal origin in its products.

Reforestation
Since 1992, Tramontina has been investing in sustainable actions. In an area of 1,500 hectares, in the municipality of Aurora do Pará, in the state of Pará, the company has developed a reforestation model. More than 1.000.000 trees have been planted, with a variety of native and exotic species at different stages of growth. Tramontina considers it indispensable to invest in this valuable social, economic and environmental project because it believes in environmental preservation and above all else respects its customers.

Alternative Energy
Tramontina Belém has found an economical and ecologically correct way to eliminate the small amount of remaining wood resulting from the production process. With the creation of the “Integrated System of Energy Generation”, the remaining wood waste and sawdust from the manufacturing process is reused as “fuel” for the production of energy.

Through this process 1,500 kw of electricity is generated, an amount which represents approximately 75% of the factory’s total consumption. In this way, the company guarantees more economy and invests in environmental actions, which produce cleaner energy when compared to fossil fuels such as petroleum and natural gas derivatives; therefore it does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.
